Classes started yesterday...well, sort of.

Yesterday was supposed to be the first day of classes. My Human Nutrition class didn't start until 2 today so I planned on buying a pot, a pan, and some groceries so I can actually cook! However, when I read that the buses would be delayed today because of construction on the road, I decided to go shopping instead. I went to Oxford Street, which is a big shopping street. However, I didn't buy anything because most of the stores were the same as the ones at home -- H&M, Gap, and Urban were right outside the Tube station -- and I decided it would be silly to shop at those. I'll have to find some markets around here...

KCL has three campuses. I live right by Guy's Campus where I have three of my four classes. Today's class, however, was at Waterloo. The train goes straight there but it's only a twenty five minute walk so I decided to walk there to see some more of London. It drizzled on my way there. It was the first time it rained since I've been here (which is pretty impressive considering I've been here for a week). By 2 pm, seven students had arrived. We sat in a small classroom waiting for the professor. After 25 minutes of waiting, someone decided to ask the people at reception if we were in the right room. We were then told that we were given the wrong timetable and that this class (here, called a module) actually begins next week. Two hours after this class was scheduled to start, I got an email saying that the class does, in fact, start next week.

Sam, Josh, Mark and Brittany were at the Tate Modern at this time, which I passed on my way home from Waterloo. I stopped there to meet them and found some exhibits that I had missed during my first visit to the Tate. One of these was an exhibit of Soviet propaganda posters. I wasn't really allowed to take pictures, but I did.

On my way back home, I passed a cheese store. I couldn't get a great picture of it, but the smell was very very strong!

That night, we met a criminologist (well, he was actually a Ripperologist) for a Jack the Ripper walk in East London. We walked around to the sites of the five different murders that happened in 1888 and he told us some of his theories and some of the history around this time.

Since I hadn't gotten any groceries, I hadn't had dinner yet, so I bought a Cornwall vegetable pasty that was sold in the Tube stop near my dorm on my way home. It was delicious (probably more because I was so hungry than because of its contents) so I decided to take a picture of it after my first bite.

I ran home and slept with a light on.
